Abinaya Arts Academy is a Bharatanatyam dance institution in San Diego, Southern California. Founded by Aler Krishnan in 1994, its goal is to promote Indian classical dance while preserving the purity of Bharatanatyam.

The institution strives for excellence through commitment, disciplined practice and hard work. It is a place where students grow together, finding confidence and expression through the art form.

Learning as a community

The academy strongly believes in group-based learning. Students of similar capabilities learn together, benefiting from their peers’ corrections as well as their own. This creates a positive atmosphere that encourages each student to progress.

Abinaya’s community extends beyond the classroom. Students continue their artistic journeys through performance, productions and ongoing study, including after their arangetram.

From the classroom to the stage

Training is complemented by original productions, repertory and collaborative work. Together, they connect the discipline of Bharatanatyam with the joy of sharing it.
